BTS, my parenting tip…

I came to know BTS this year. 2021. At a time when we are all confined in our homes. I was scared of the virus. Scared of the vaccine. Scared of the future. Scared even of the outside air. I was particularly scared of showing my own fears too much because I have a little soul who draws strength from me. He is scared, too and worried about not going to school, not seeing his classmates, not playing outside. I searched for ways how to teach him how to be brave, how not to give up easily, how not to be overcome by fears. As a modern mom, I used the internet to find tips and hacks and being online for too often too long exposed me to a lot of contents. One of them is the hottest video from the most popular band in the planet – dynamite. Such an easy song to hum along to. I was not too keen on the lyrics. I was just focused on the feel good vibe of the beats. Before you know it, the next video plays and Mic drop is such a mood. A bounce up song. Fierce. Then came Anpanman. The word hero was all I understood at first and it felt like there’s hope in this world. Before I know it, I was playing song after song on repeat. Dancing along. Memorizing their names. Eager to consume  more information about to them. Run BTS. In the Soop. Bon Voyage. The purple ocean swallowed me whole! Then I thought of sharing this to my son. So we can bond over music and dance… Before that, I had to do some digging. I wanted to know if they are appropriate for kids. After all, my son is just 8. I chanced upon a video telling their story from the beginning. How they struggled. How they fought until the verge of breaking. How they never let their fears and hardships get the better of them. How they laughed their hearts out in the face of adversity. Wow! It was a teachable moment. It sums up how we should thread through life and instantly I wanted my son to learn from them. BBQ More important than their skills and talents, is their grit… and that’s what got me hooked. I consent for my son to be influenced by them. They are not just a band. They are role models… and that’s when I became an Army, an army mom.
